When Ted was growing up in Springfield in the first two decades of the twentieth century there was only one art museum. Today the building is known as the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. Smith and his wife Belle Townsley dedicated their lives to collecting art, especially rare pieces from Asia. In 1896 they opened a building just behind the Central Library to show off their exquisite collection. Ted would have learned much about art from his visits to this museum. This museum is now part of the Springfield Museums.
