In 1906, two years after Ted was born, the Geisel family moved into a three story house at 74 Fairfield Street in the Forest Park neighborhood of Springfield. Ted lived there with his parents and his sister until he left for college. As Ted grew up there he played with toy soldiers on the front porch and with his bulldog Rex in the yard. On his sister’s bedroom wall Ted drew strange animals similar to those in his books many years later. The house was also close to his beloved Forest Park Zoo.
